Daniel
Woods is possibly the youngest U.S. climber to redpoint a route as
difficult as 5.14a. However, he did not set out to make that his
only goal. It was the colorful, bouldery line of the "The 7
PM Show" at Rifle Mountain Park that appealed to the 13 year-old
from Longmont, Colorado.
The "Show" is a well established
5.14 that is regarded by many veteran Rifle climbers as a "power-endurance" route.
Typically done in Riflesque fashion with a rubber knee-pad, Woods
sent the route without a single knee-bar in only ten attempts.
When asked what he was going to do next,
Woods replied, "I'm just going to have fun and do some 13's." A
video of the ascent can be viewed on the Internet at http://woodsfamilyclimbs.com
Daniel has been climbing since 1995. He is becoming a regular out
at Rifle when he is not in school, or skateboarding with his friends.
